The Paternalistic coach is the type of coach who acts as a father figure to the athlete. Athletes typically stay with these coaches for long periods of time because of loyalty and trust. This type of coach treats their athletes as if they were one of their own children. Athletes have no issues going to this type of as coach regarding any issue as they typically believe that what they are telling them is truly in their best interest.
